Fire, Water, Steam: The World of JMW Turner

Friday 4th July 3pm - Parish Hall - Free

Join Art Historian Morgan Haigh for a Talk Celebrating the 250th Birthday of Britain’s Greatest Painter

Born into the backstreets of Georgian London, 250 years ago this year, Joseph Milord William Turner’s prodigious artistic talent would see him rise to the greatest heights of the British art establishment and see him travel across Europe, from Wales to Rome. Through his paintings he would redefine how we see our own landscape, and record the extraordinary changes in technology and culture that the Victorian age would bring.

This short lecture will explore Turner’s life and times, following in his footsteps from his earliest watercolours to the sublime oil paintings which are still today celebrated as the nation’s favourite artworks.
